Bad Habits at Three Weeks Old

"You can't spoil a baby!" Maybe not, but you sure can start some bad habits. Is it out of desperation? Survival? The need for sleep? Who knows? Here in our house, at three weeks old, we have fostered some habits that will need breaking in the future.

1. Cayden likes/must be walked/paced/bounced/sssh'd to sleep. I know. I know! I've read the books! I know that he should put himself to sleep. Knowing it, and putting it into practice are two different things. I would love to feed him, play with him, and put him down; his eyes droopy and sleepy. Not really the case. We know we have to break this habit soon, but for now it is working for us!

He's just so darn cute!

Honestly, that is the only really bad habit. He will take a pacifier, sometimes. He doesn't sleep in his crib yet, but he does sleep in a rocking/cradle thing. He likes to sleep in your arms and on your chest, but it's not a must.

This picture doesn't do his feet justice. He has BIG feet. I think he is built like a swimmer. Long legs, big feet, long torso.

He wasn't too keen on the sunlight here, so he covered it up with his glove. Sometimes he wears just one: we call him Michael Jackson.

Week Three Changes I've Noticed:

* He is holding his head up a lot more.

* When he looks at you, he seems to focus on you, more than just a shadowy image of you.

* He doesn't look cross-eyed as much.

* Eats like a horse. My schedule each day revolves around him eating. I'm the milk machine.

* He looks bigger. He lost so much weight coming home, that he just hit his birth weight last Friday. On Monday he weighed in at 8.6. It will be interesting to see how much he weighs at one month!

* Went to the doctor on Monday, and she prescribed him Zantac for reflux. He seems to be doing well on it, not as fussy.

* He is sleeping in a better pattern right now. Usually in three hour blocks. He feeds for about 30 minutes, and then sleeps for about 2 -2.5 hours. Compared to the first week home, this is heaven!

The House:

Our brick is up, and it looks great. This was by far one of the hardest decisions we have made. We had one picked out; they couldn't get it. We picked this one out, and it turned out they were pavers and not bricks...oh well. They were a little more expensive, but I think well worth it. The white area will be covered with rock.

They have the tile down on the floors. It looks good. It is all starting to come together, and we are finally starting to see what our choices look like. Next week they will start on the trim, and cabinets. This is the kitchen...if you couldn't tell.

Next Week Cayden turn one month old. Crazy!
