Sequence of events

It started off after we got home from Jennifer's. I had a quick getaway to a women's bible study.

Then we ate...

Blessings

Just looking at his sweet face every day, I am so thankful for him. Even when I think our day isnt going so well, or maybe I am not doing as good a job as I could be, he flashes that smile and I know that Heath and I are very blessed!
He is sleeping right now and making the cutest noises. God is good!

6 Weeks

Some people say I look like my daddy in these pictures....Mommy agrees! Today I am six weeks old. My days tend to look pretty similar. We wake up, and I eat. Mommy plays with me on my quilt, or on my lounger. We like to practice lifting my head up, and much to Daddy's chagrin, Mommy sometimes tries to teach me to roll over. Every now in then, like in these black and white pictures, we have a photo shoot. Once we have played for an hour or so, I take a nap. Wash, Rinse and Repeat.

Of course, I still like to be held...a lot. And even though I am getting bigger, sometimes I like to curl up into a ball.

We have reached the six week mark, and I feel like I should be attempting some sort of schedule. Don't get me wrong...we have a routine, I just don't know how it will translate into a schedule when it is time for me to go back to school. Part of me stresses over it, and part of my pushes it to the back of my mind. I keep pretty well to the Babywise idea of Feed, Wake, and Sleep. If anyone has any ideas of how to implement a schedule, or tips, I would greatly appreciate some feedback.

We started using his playmat more. He likes it pretty well. More than the regular quilt? It's hard to say. He does notice the stuff on the playmat though. Here he is looking at the whale.

Bath time! He likes it warm. He likes the warmth outside, and he likes warm water. He doesn't last a long time in the bath, but long enough for us to know that he is clean, and usually long enough to pee in the tub. Gross, right? What can you do?

House Update: We picked out granite last week. I am kind of excited to see what it looks like once it is put in. It is not your standard Santa Cecila...It's different, and that makes it exciting. All of the trim is in, the banister for the staircase, the fireplace...all done. Basically we are waiting on the paint. That should be next week. Hopefully in time for me to take some pictures and update the blog.

*** I have purchased some items for Cayden...shocking, huh? I bought some wood letters for his wall in his room. Super pumped about these. I also bought some onesie stickers that display his age. So each month he has a new sticker to wear for his monthly picture. This is what I do during the day when I am not tending to his needs or cleaning something when I can.****

While Cayden was sleeping...

I think I figured out how to update my blog with videos I take on my cell phone. As if still pictures weren't enough, now you can see him in action. Or at least as much action as an almost 6 week old can manage!

Here he is smiling about his possible nicknames...enjoy!

Five Weeks

Here we are at week five. School has begun, and I am not there to deal with the craziness and excitement of the beginning of the year. It's weird to not be there. I did finally get my classroom as ready as it was going to be, and my sub for the first week was worked out as well. I went to Open House, which turned out to be a great idea because I could explain to the parents and students that I wouldn't actually be there until October.

So what do we do during the day?

Here is my chair. This is where I spend a LARGE majority of my day. Almost everything I need is accessible from this point. In front, the Boppy Lounger. On the lounger, my phone. On the right you will notice the black bag that contains my breast pump. (exciting, right?) On the left: the War Zone. Blue cup containing ice water. Book, in case I want to read. Baby Stuff: Aspirator, Zantac, nail clippers, pacifier, baby lotion. I feed him, and entertain him with my Hilarious personality from this point. Don't worry. We are not sedentary. We walk. See previous posts. His tummy time quilt is also nearby.

Tummy Time. He looks adorable in stripes!

We are working on trying to like our car seat. Taking him places has been a little hard because he likes to cry. Usually he is mad because he is in the seat, or it so happens that he is hungry. Surprise, surprise. Today he did really well. It made me feel like I might be able to get out of the house on my own more often.

He is starting to smile. I took this picture yesterday, thinking this was a smile...It was, kind of. But Today, he actually did smile at me...It was great! I wish Heath would have been here to see it! And I wish I would have gotten a picture of it.

The House: I have been really excited about building our house. It is nice to build something that has all of the things that you want in it. Up until now it was hard to imagine what it was going to look like. Well, this past week, the cabinets and built ins were installed. I am thrilled. Below is our dining room. When they were framing we noticed a dead space in the wall, and decided a butler's pantry would be cool. Plus, any additional storage space for wine is always a plus.

It turned out great! Not as great as our STUDY. My bookshelf is so beautiful. I cannot wait until it is stained, and books are lining the shelves. This room is quickly becoming my favorite.

Notice Cayden in the corner. He and I will be spending lots of time in here catching up on our Dr. Seuss.

Our Kitchen.... I think it looks good even without the paint. I am so excited to move in and get our stuff out of storage, although I think a lot of it will not be returning to our house. You really can manage with few items. Our builder is doing a great job of meeting our needs. I found a picture of a laundry room on Pinterest. It has wainscoting on the wall, with hooks. A great place for bags, purses, etc. I sent them the picture, and they are making it happen! I am so blessed.

My next post will be devoted to all of the blessings that we have to be thankful for.

Doctor Update

Today we went to Cayden's, or should I say Tank's, one month appointment. Two weeks ago this kid weighed in at 8lbs 6oz. We were thrilled. Yea, he's gaining weight. Today, our Tank came in at......

wait for it....

wait for it........

TEN pounds Three ounces. Are you kidding me? No wonder my back is killing me! Of course this wouldn't be a problem if I didn't hold him, and love him, and walk him to sleep all of the time!

Good Grief. In the beginning we would call Cayden all sorts of pet names. Bug. Cayden Bug. Pudding Pop...

I'm definitely introducing Tank, and using it as my Number 1 nickname.

I'm not sure what his length is...I'll try to measure him later!

Heath finally got a picture of us together. He doesn't really look like a 10 pounder...but looks are deceiving.

On a side note: I started filling out Cayden/Tank's baby book. I like the idea of having the baby book because I can put stuff in it...Pictures, invitations, bracelets from the hospital. I knew when I started this blog that it would also serve as a baby book. Blog2Print does a great job!

Also, I was thinking that I would like to record little things that Cayden does each day in a notebook. AND...I've got the crafting bug again. I am mentally preparing or thinking about how to complete a project. It involves machines that cut...Dangerous is my middle name.

One Month Old

If you notice, my blog picture has changed. As much as it pained me to take down the super cute head shot, I know that I need to show how much Cayden has grown. I stole the idea from my friend Kristin...except she was smart enough to take a picture at one week, and then compare the two. Oh well.

Cayden and I shot this photo one morning after he ate. He was changed, given a bath, and put into his outfit. He did a great job of "sitting" propped up against the crib. I took a few pics, and then picked him up...and then he spit up. Thankfully, he waited until after his photo shoot. I looked at the pictures later and realized that he was trying to show is chest hair by opening the buttons just a little. I guess he is trying to woo the ladies...I'm hooked!

We think he may be going through a growth spurt. He decided earlier this week to want to eat all. of. the. time. Anytime I would feed him, 30-45 minutes later he was hungry again. I finally pumped and was shocked that he was eating 3+ ounces. I guess wanting to call him Tank may not be too far off. We have a doctor's appointment on Monday, so we are placing bets to see how much he weighs. He think 9.3 and I wouldn't be surprised if it were more.

He's just so cute! Heath was walking him around, and I was snapping away!

Kristin got Cayden these awesome sunglasses. Of course I was dying to put them on, thinking surely they will fit...not so much. If he looks this cute now, just imagine when he can actually wear them!

Side note: There are few pictures of Cayden and I together. The point of this shot was Cayden and his super cute sunglasses, not my barely there cleavage.
Cayden's first trip to the pool. I'm not sure he actually saw the pool, but he was near it. Heath and I went to my cousin Jennifer's to put our feet in the pool for a bit. I can't wait until I can actually get in there. When is too early for baby swim lessons? :o)

House Update:

Did I mention already that I love our brick. They began working on the stucco, and it was gray. We were thinking it was going to be tan, and didn't think that was going to look to great. When we went by and saw gray, we were pleasantly surprised. The cabinet guys have also be hard at work. It is really starting to come together.

I wanted to take a picture of my book shelf, but it wasn't in place that provided a good shot. It is beautiful...and it's not even stained. I can just imagine myself sitting in a chair, in the shadow of my book shelf filled with books I've read, books I want to read, places where new books can go... It really is wonderful.

Bad Habits at Three Weeks Old

"You can't spoil a baby!" Maybe not, but you sure can start some bad habits. Is it out of desperation? Survival? The need for sleep? Who knows? Here in our house, at three weeks old, we have fostered some habits that will need breaking in the future.

1. Cayden likes/must be walked/paced/bounced/sssh'd to sleep. I know. I know! I've read the books! I know that he should put himself to sleep. Knowing it, and putting it into practice are two different things. I would love to feed him, play with him, and put him down; his eyes droopy and sleepy. Not really the case. We know we have to break this habit soon, but for now it is working for us!

He's just so darn cute!

Honestly, that is the only really bad habit. He will take a pacifier, sometimes. He doesn't sleep in his crib yet, but he does sleep in a rocking/cradle thing. He likes to sleep in your arms and on your chest, but it's not a must.

This picture doesn't do his feet justice. He has BIG feet. I think he is built like a swimmer. Long legs, big feet, long torso.

He wasn't too keen on the sunlight here, so he covered it up with his glove. Sometimes he wears just one: we call him Michael Jackson.

Week Three Changes I've Noticed:

* He is holding his head up a lot more.

* When he looks at you, he seems to focus on you, more than just a shadowy image of you.

* He doesn't look cross-eyed as much.

* Eats like a horse. My schedule each day revolves around him eating. I'm the milk machine.

* He looks bigger. He lost so much weight coming home, that he just hit his birth weight last Friday. On Monday he weighed in at 8.6. It will be interesting to see how much he weighs at one month!

* Went to the doctor on Monday, and she prescribed him Zantac for reflux. He seems to be doing well on it, not as fussy.

* He is sleeping in a better pattern right now. Usually in three hour blocks. He feeds for about 30 minutes, and then sleeps for about 2 -2.5 hours. Compared to the first week home, this is heaven!

The House:

Our brick is up, and it looks great. This was by far one of the hardest decisions we have made. We had one picked out; they couldn't get it. We picked this one out, and it turned out they were pavers and not bricks...oh well. They were a little more expensive, but I think well worth it. The white area will be covered with rock.

They have the tile down on the floors. It looks good. It is all starting to come together, and we are finally starting to see what our choices look like. Next week they will start on the trim, and cabinets. This is the kitchen...if you couldn't tell.

Next Week Cayden turn one month old. Crazy!
