Spring Break 2012

This time last year I was on a cruise with my mom, soaking up the rays, and getting a lot of reading accomplished! This year I was chasing an 8 month old around the house! It's no Vegas, or Cancun, but I'll take it! We had two play dates with Millie and one with Kalyn, and then a whirlwind trip to my mom's house/Branson. That was pretty much it! It seemed as if the sun would never shine, but finally on Saturday it did! I'm a little sad that this week is over, but I know we are just that much closer to the summer! Oh the adventures we will have then, I'm sure.

It's really a glamorous life being a baby. You are fed, bathed, clothes picked out, etc. Sometimes, when we are feeling saucy, we like to not wear a shirt. Actually, sometimes we just run around in a diaper.
WARNING: Cute baby picture overload ahead!

Next to sweater vests, tie onesies are where it's at! And leggin's of course. Cayden is becoming quite the crawler. To the point where I think we are going to have to spring for a play yard, or "baby prison." You can walk into the kitchen, and turn around and he's crawled ten feet in 30 seconds.

There is something about a baby bottom and feet that are the cutest. This is the only time in life, really, that people would want this side of their personality photographed.

Cayden can also go from crawling to sitting really well. He still hasn't started pulling up yet, though. Not sure how to facilitate, or encourage that, but we'll keep trying. We are having some eating issues though. Apparently Cayden's gag reflex is strong, really strong. I mentioned before that we tried feeding him a banana, and he threw up. I tried to feed him 1/4 of a puff, same thing. We tried feeding him the "Level 3" foods, which basically have more texture, nope. Up-Chuck Charlie in our kitchen. I guess he'll eat baby food until he is 12.

Someone is also working on his third tooth. Sleeping has been precarious. I think he is using nursing as a safety blanket. That needs to be "nipped" in the bud...ha ha. I want to have a conversation with the doctor about the weening process. I think it's time. But then again, our kid is going to be eating mush for life, so why not breast milk....just kidding!

These next pictures are a sneak peek of the Easter outfit, and a Bunny Mickey Mouse that will find it's way into Cayden's Easter basket.

Here is my dapper little man....

Mess his hair up a little, and you get a boy with an edge.

There is the Bouse? Munny? Whatever you call it, Mickey in a costume!

Hope everyone had a great week, even those who weren't off. I think I broke a record by posting three times this week. Don't get too used to it.

8 Months...Give or Take a Few Days.

It's the sunlight's fault. I blame the position of our home, in relation to the sunlight in the afternoons. It makes taking pictures without a flash somewhat precarious. Add to that the need visionary aspect of taking Cayden's picture in a couple of different outfits, and you basically have a huge time delay. Any who.

I know at last month's post that we had decided that Cayden wouldn't be a crawler. We were fairly certain he would go straight from tummy to feet. It's amazing what a week or two can do. It seemed like Cayden made a ton of changes in seven short days. One day I got a text that said Cayden was up on all fours, which was completely surprising. Usually I would have to force his legs under him, and then he would immediately collapse to the ground. Nope. Not now. He is up on all fours. And Rocking. And when you put an IPad in front of him...CRAWLING!! It's shaky, and a little bit funky...but, Hey, that's my kid!

Here is the link!

I'm still in shock. Another development in is repetoire is mimicking. We are experimenting with Bye Bye...and if you wait long enough, he will open and close his little hand. If you knock on a window, he will know. It's very cute, and it pretty much confirms what we all suspected. He's a Genius! Add to that his jabbering, and we are well on our way to early admission to an Ivy League school.

His second tooth has popped through in the last couple of days. We have taken to calling him Shark Tooth, because they are quite sharp. He's only bitten me once while nursing, thank goodness.

Although this looks like he can pull himself up, he can't. This is where we need some practice. I think it's because he really doesn't have anything to pull up on. Like any crazy parent, it makes me want to run out and buy everything to assist him. I currently have my eye on a push/walk toy. Basically, I call it Keepin' Up with the Kuhlows. Millie has some pretty sweet contraptions, I feel like Cayden needs them too.

One Month.

Eight Months. Cra-Azy. The past week I have looked back at pictures and videos of when Cayden was just a wee-tot (one month old.) It's almost like I can't even remember when he was like that! I see pictures of babies on FaceBook, and it's just too much to imagine Cayden being that small again. How fast time flies, and how quickly they change! What would my day be like if we wasn't motoring around the kitchen in his walker, clipping my ankles as he runs into my feet? Or listening to him babble in the backseat of the car?

As much as Heath hates leggins' for babies, I love them. Easier than pants, and now that Cayden is just a toenail away from being an official crawler, they're easier on the knees. I will be purchasing more. Etsy, here I come!

Speaking of car seats, Cayden moved up to a Britax car seat. Just one more step to becoming a Big Boy! He was a little hesitant at first, but he seems to like it pretty well. It's ginormous, but it should last us for a few years.

Stats:

He weighs more than 21 pounds. That's all I can say, because I haven't weighed him yet. Carter's 9 month clothes still work, as well as Gap 6-12 month. He loves sunglasses as long as he is outside, but once you are inside he will take them off. He is getting better about wearing hats, obviously the pageboy hat is our favorite.

Food. I have been trying to get him to take more milk/formula at a time. He was only eating about 4-5 ounces at a time, if you were lucky. But with some advice I switched bottles, and he will take closer to 5-6 now. He loves baby food, except peas, and bananas are a little rough. I actually tried to feed him a mashed up banana the other night, and after acting like he was going to puke.... he did. After that he was done with food for the evening.

Sleep. Ha. Sometimes he takes an hour nap, most of the time 20 minutes. He wakes 2-3 times at night. I probably should just let him cry, but it's just easier to nurse him for a bit. I tried giving him a bottle one night, to see if he would eat a lot, and then sleep...fat chance. He's a boob man. Which is making me think that it is more of a security blanket than anything. Oh well. I'll figure something out.

He loves his walker. He follows me all around the house, and enjoys running into stuff. I've taken him out in the driveway a couple of times!

I say it every week, but I will really try to post more. Even if it's just a picture!

Dear Cayden,

What a blessing you are to us! We wanted you so badly from the very beginning, and you are so much more than we could have dreamed of. Each day it seems like you discover something new. You love watching the cats, and just the word Mickey Mouse puts a smile on your face. You are quite the social butterfly, and warm-up quickly to most. We are quickly drawing nearer to summer and I absolutely cannot wait to spend every day with you!

Love,

Mom and Dad

Speed Racer

Cayden needed some racing glasses to go along with his hat!

Here he is! Please disregard my nasaly voice in the background! There is so much to talk about right now. In the past week alone it seems like he has made major changes! But his 8 month birthday is on Wednesday so I think I will wait and do one giant update then!

I've Been Told...

That I need to update the blog more often. I thought once a week was enough for people. And when I update it twice within seven days, I feel like I am accomplishing a lot. Honestly, if I could update it three or four times a week, I would. Cayden really is that interesting. Seriously. Only I am tired, and lazy, and it takes effort to plug the camera cord into the computer. And then download. And then upload. I know my excuses are falling on deaf ears.

The crowd has spoken, and the crowd wants more cowbell.... I mean Cayden!

Cayden has had some growing up moments this week. The new tooth was the first of, I now know, many signs that my little baby boy is becoming a little man. The first is that we had to move out of the Bumbo. Oh the Bumbo. We've had some great times. Some fun times, and more recently some scary times. Like when Cayden reaches out with the very tippy tips of his fingers to grab something, and the Bumbo starts a rockin'. Each time this happened I just knew he it was going to tip over! So I ordered a new chair. Not a high chair, but a table chair. I didn't really want a huge high chair taking over the kitchen.
It clips to the counter, and I am sure you are thinking that it's not that secure. It is. I think I could hang off of it. It's snug, secure, and perfect! We can take it with us to restaurants and family gatherings.

Cayden loved it. The whole time I just kept thinking that he is getting to be such a big boy, such a grown up boy. Sniff. I'm a little sad. But NOT sad enough to want another, yet.

Cayden aka "Austin Powers, Jr." He is saying, "One Miiiiillllion Dollars." I'm pretty sure that no other child has looked as cute in a pageboy hat as my child. Not that I am biased or anything.

His other milestone is the walker. Oh the walker. We bought a cheapish walker at "the store" a few months ago. Three to be exact. All of this time Cayden has never been able to really touch the ground. And yes, it was set on the lowest setting. Keep in mind that Cayden is in the 95 percentile for height. I guess it was made for Shaquille O'Neal's kids. Anyway, last week we stopped by to visit Camilla and Kristin. We decided to test out Millie's walker, because she was zooming around like crazy. And what do you know...so did Cayden.

Four days later Cayden's new walker is delivered....

Speed Racer is my name. Walking fast is my game. My next post will be a video of him literally zooming around the house. He is everywhere. He can make the loop around our kitchen on his own. It is hilarious! Exciting, and sad too. I look at Cayden sitting on his own, playing on his own, and now peeling out in his walker, and he is growing up soo fast. I love him so much!

Millie and Kristin came over today and hung out for a bit. It's just nice having them so close. I know that we are going to have a ton of fun this summer, and in summers to come!

When you see Cayden and Millie in pictures, there is an obvious size difference. Millie is every bit the dainty, sweet girl. And Cayden is well, every bit the Tank we all love. However, don't let Millie fool you. When she sees something she wants. Millie gets. Today Millie wanted to touch Cayden. His face. His ears. His back. She was fixated. Cayden played aloof, and nonchalant. He doesn't like to show the ladies his true feelings. He keeps his heart protected.

You can see here that Cayden is trying his best to not pay attention to Millie.

I promise Millie is not pushing Cayden down. Although....she did pull him down at our last play date, hmmm. Anyway, she just wanted to touch his back. And she was so excited when she finally did. Cayden is acting preoccupied with his book. Silly Boy.

I think all parents have those moments where they can see the future. Or at least what they want the future to be like. Looking at these picture of Millie and Cayden, I can see them making appearances over the years to prove that they were best friends from birth.

Their first "cars." In 16 years, this picture will look totally different! That's all for now! Look for Speed Racer's video in a few days.
